CLOCKWĪZE

CLOCKWĪZE is a DJ, but really a 'selecta' (selector) in the traditional Jamaican sense. In JA a 'selecta' is one who selects tracks while a DJ is a rapper.  I select deep, soul igniting tracks that focus mainly on the Reggae and Latin idoms and their many offshoots. It's all about getting to that point of releasing any tension and bringing on the ecstasy that builds in your body when the right sound hits your eardrums and rumbles the part of your reality that knows the transcendent.

I always bring a keyboard, or a melodica, an effects pedal and a microphone and perform along to a looped and dubbed out sections of a track I'm spinning.

Why "CLOCKWīZE"?  Here's the story:  Many years ago while teaching at the amazing JAZZ CAMP WEST (check it) I was sitting on the deck amidst the redwood trees in Northern California (Half Moon bay) and some of my students sat with me. They kept calling me "Clockwise" followed by a little demonic chuckle. Obviously I had been the subject of a roasting the night before. Finally I said., "OK, give it up. What's this Clockwise ting?" And they said, 'Well, you're the only teacher we've ever had that keeps telling us to turn it up!"  Nuff said!
